Miroslava Gorokhovich

I was always crocheting. The first time I learned how to crochet was in school. I have been crocheting ever since. It became part of my life. Although I later received my education in engineering, my love for creating works of art in women’s clothing using crochet techniques drew me back to my passion, and I eventually became a fashion designer.
In the early 1990s I was unable to find a crochet hook small enough for my work, so my father made one for me out of a needle. It was the finest (smallest) hook imaginable and I still have it. I keep it as a memento to remind of those days.
My first work in Irish crochet was to add a lace collar to evening dresses. I sent my work to art exhibitions where they were noticed right away and I was invited to different art shows. People began to ask me to make clothes for them, so I started working on bigger pieces—cardigans, summer weight coats, shawls and tops. My first large piece was a white wedding bodice and it brought me a lot of success. It is still my most popular piece.
My inspiration comes from nature and the environment around me. I look for ideas around me—flowers in the garden and trees blooming in the spring.

Asia Verten
Before Asia became a Fashion Designer, she worked at the library. But during the restructuring of the Soviet Union, so called “Perestroyka,” the job of a librarian became a job with a very low income. "It became difficult for my big family to live on the salary of a librarian and I needed to change my profession, so I went to Fashion school and became a Fashion Designer, and opened my own business – I started making fashionable clothing for women", Asia said.
When Russia was going through economic crisis she sewed elite women’s clothing. Her business became very popular in the town she was living in. She held fashion shows to show off her work.
In 2002 she moved to Italy. "I love this country; it is a beautiful place. France and Italy are considered the top of fashion in Europe. As a designer I learned a lot in Italy. Later I discovered the technique of Irish crochet and began creating new fashions using this technique. It became my passion".
Her work is known for its intricacy and fine details—she use the smallest (finest) hooks to create her designs. To make garments look shinier and more appropriate for evening wear, she uses metallic thread and Swarovski crystals.
"I am inspired by nature, paintings and other things. For example, my inspiration for my dress, “Esmeralda” comes from fractal art. Once inspired, I make a sketch of a design, crochet some of the details and later put them together to create a garment of rich aesthetic value", told Asia.

Elena Statkevich

I was born and live in the wonderful city of Moscow, Russia.
Knitting and crochet fascinated me since childhood. Most likely, this passion passed on to me
from my grandmother. I remember her entire house was decorated with delicate white lace - on the valances beds, curtains, ruffles on the pillow cases, all kinds of napkins, tablecloths on the
tables. It was very beautiful and long time ago... My grandmother taught me the basics of crochet. And now, every time when I crochet, I remember my grandmother and the lessons she gave me when I was a child. I think of it with great gratitude and a little sadness. I began to crochet Irish lace about 5 years ago. I saw the old works of Irish Crochet from 19 th century, and I fall in love with this fascinating lace. And of course I decided to try it myself. After crocheting Irish Lace I cannot imagine how you can crochet in any other way. This technique is not easy, but gives an amazing results and most beautiful crochet items. I cannot call my fascination with Irish lace a job, because Irish Crochet Lace became part of me and my life. It does not matter how meticulous, long and hard the process of Irish Crochet is, I enjoy making it and make my customers happy.
